Chief Editors

Grace Cheng is a four-year senior from Taiwan. She has been involved in INKredible as a designer since her first year at Hotchkiss. While finding her passion in visual art and design, she is also extremely devoted into cello-playing and is currently the principal cellist in the Hotchkiss Orchestra. This past summer, she spent six weeks at Cornell University studying architecture and experiencing the life as a devoted art student. She hopes to bring the design aspect she learned at Cornell and to share it with the rest of the students of INK.

Elaine Wang is a four-year senior from Beijing, China. An aspiring film director, devoted artist and avid writer, she dabbles in different realms of art, such as painting, paper cutting, photography and  costume design. She joined INK during prep year, and has found it to be a place where all her passions come together. Art takes her to the most random yet compelling places- 16000 ft in the tibetan highlands, under the pantheon in Rome. Likewise, she looks forward to the ever changing journey of INK itself, in all its future issues.

Bobby Kwon is an avid sculptor, experimental film aficionado, and dedicated classicist. A three-year senior from the Iowan fields of gold, he joined INK in his lower-mid year as a writer, editor and artist. Having started stone-sculpture as a sixth grader, he is inspired by automatism and biomorphic design in his artwork. He enjoys immersing himself in the calm of the Tinker 4 night while sipping Green tea and listening to classy Jazz.

Sharon Cheng is a four-year senior from Hong Kong. She has been painting and drawing ever since she was a little kid. At Hotchkiss, she has been in the visual arts program every year, and she also takes photos for the Hotchkiss Lookbook and the Mischianza. Last semester, she was able to spend seven days in the woods painting landscapes at Chewonki Semester School. She decided to spend six weeks of her summer at RISD Pre-College to continue refining her skills as an artist and exploring other mediums of art. She is INKredibly excited to work with one of the most dedicated and creative group of students at Hotchkiss.

Carina Zhang is a three-year senior at Hotchkiss. She has worked for INK as a contributing writer, an editor, and a Publishing & Sales Executive. For her, art is a painstaking process of self-exploration and self-elevation. Art is a special form of expression, which allows her to show her most intense and genuine emotions. Like peeling off an onion layer by layer, the process of creating art tortures her by giving her uncomfortable feelings when she tries to approach the core, but simultaneously enchants her as she digs deeper inside of herself.

Narisa Buranasiri is a 3-year senior from Bangkok, Thailand. She has been drawing and painting her entire life, and began to write poetry last year. She is a co-head of The Writing Block and is a poetry editor for The Blueshift Journal. This summer, she also attended the Iowa Young Writers' Studio.

Designers

Mariah is a three-year upper-mid who decided to submit a short story to INK on a whim prep year and fell in love. She admires and partakes in almost all art forms, and she loves people who love to be creative. Mariah feels happiest when she is in the dance studio, the art studio, or just in her room writing and listening to music. She hopes to be a fiction author and a graphic designer in the future, but for now, she works as a writer and is on the design board of INK.

Emma Franklin is from Bridgewater Connecticut. She has always been interested in design and art as her mother is a landscape artist and her father is a web designer. This background drove her to do visual art and INK here at Hotchkiss.

Grace Matthews is a three-year Upper Mid. Her favorite activities include drawing, reading, playing squash, and designing lego models (she is working on the ship from Prometheus). She is an academic enthusiast, animal lover and aspiring classicist or engineer. If she had all the free time in the world, she would practice the harp, work on art projects, choreograph dances, write her own stories, and watch TV (mostly Nat Geo Wild or BBC’s Sherlock).

Viola (Kyoung A) Lee is a four-year senior from Seoul, Korea. She was a visual arts student for two years in the humanities program and enjoys music, poetry and theater. Inspired by Armand Trousseau’s famous quote, “the worst scientist is he who is not an artist; the worst artist is he who is no scientist,” she appreciates art as a creative outlet.

Jesse Godine is a two-year Lower Mid from upstate New York interested in art, literature and film. He would like some day to call himself a writer.

Katherine Spencer is a three year Upper Mid. She was born in Austin, Texas, and grew up in both Austin and small town Crested Butte, Colorado before coming to Hotchkiss. She is in the Varsity Tennis team, and loves to read, write, and hang out with friends.

Sophia Wang is a four-year senior from Shanghai, China. She was in the humanities music program playing the violin in the Hotchkiss Orchestra. Music for her is a source of not only aesthetic enjoyment, but also inspiration. Aside from music, she loves reading and creative writing. During her tenth grade summer, she participated in the Sewanee Playwriting program and developed a new zeal for playwriting.

Jenny Liu is currently an uppermid from Crown Point, Indiana. An avid writer and reader, some of her favorite authors include Donna Tartt and Jhumpa Lahiri. As a member of the Hotchkiss Dance Company, she has extended her passion for dance beyond ballet to include modern and performance choreography. This past summer, an internship for UNICEF unexpectedly introduced her to website design. Through INK, she hopes to share her personal, creative perspective and expand her understanding of the arts.

Elisa Xu is an uppermid. She loves films, dance, art and writing. Perhaps influenced by her stepdad, she has always loved films and filmmaking, but was not fully exposed to the other arts until Hotchkiss. For this, she is very grateful to the school, INK, Film Club, Dance Company, and all her classes, teachers, and friends that have and continue to inspire her.
